At 16 years old, Martha Sheils, DO, had a perforated appendix. She was taken to the emergency room and was looking forward to the pain going away. When she woke up from surgery and the pain was gone, she was just in amazement. That’s when she knew she was called to the field of medicine.
Dr. Sheils knows that compassion is important in healthcare because patients need to know that healthcare professionals in their community are here to help them. And she believes what makes a great physician is the ability to develop a relationship and build trust with their patients.
As a board-certified physician with 25 years of experience in family medicine, her passions include providing whole-person care for all stages of life and getting to know people well.
She also has special interests in osteoporosis management, acute and chronic illness management and preventative medicine.
Dr. Sheils received her Doctorate in Osteopathic Medicine from Nova Southeastern University. She also served in the Air Force Reserves as a Captain/Medical Corps and is a member of the American Osteopathic Association, the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians, the Florida Osteopathic Medical Association, the American Academy of Family Practitioners and the Manatee County Medical Society.
Recently relocating to Tampa, Florida with her husband, Dr, Sheils is excited to now be near her three grown children and grandchildren. When she isn't caring for patients, you can find her with her family or traveling.
Her practice is pleased to offer same-day appointments and even welcomes walk-ins.
